3 key roles of the Gablok self-build design office
In the world of self-build, the essential role of a design office goes far beyond simply drawing up plans. As part of our team of one engineer and one draughtsman, we are committed to pushing back the frontiers of feasibility and innovation to offer our customers a safe and rewarding Gablok experience.

In this article, we take a closer look at the many facets of our contribution, highlighting our expertise in the fields of stability, regulation, research and development.

What does the design office bring to the Gablok self-build system?

Our design office consists of two people: Virginie Bourguignon, our engineer, and Gaëtan Materne, a draughtsman. Our team plays an essential role at Gablok, from designing assembly plans to obtaining technical approvals, as well as constantly striving for eco-responsibility and structural optimization. Every element is meticulously thought out to facilitate and enhance your self-build project.

Stability studies and assembly plans for a successful Gablok self-build.

Prior to sale, the design office works with the sales team to analyze the feasibility of house and annexe projects. We adapt the sizing of structural elements such as joists, beams and vertical reinforcements to current standards. We adapt the dimensioning of structural elements to current standards, while ensuring the overall wind stability of the system, with particular attention paid to bracing elements. Finally, we draw up assembly plans with specific details for each self-build project.

Technical approvals for worldwide accessibility

To extend Gablok's international reach, the design office is responsible for obtaining the necessary technical approvals in each country. A technical approval, also known as an "ATG" in Belgium, is a validation attesting that a material or piece of equipment can be used in construction. It is a document that gives a technical opinion on how to use a specific product, detailing its characteristics and operation. This document has a different name in each country. For example, it is called "CSTB" in France and "DIBT" in Germany.

To begin this procedure, our design office carries out a detailed analysis of the technical requirements specific to each country in which we wish to operate. Preparing the technical file is a complex process that requires close collaboration with various stakeholders. At the same time, our team is committed to efficiently managing laboratory tests to guarantee the conformity and quality of our products.

Ongoing research and development by our design office

At Gablok, our design department is the driving force behind innovation in modular self-build. It embodies our vision for the future of the industry, constantly seeking solutions based on 4 fundamental principles.

The 4 main axes of research and development in self-build

In our constant quest for improvement, we remain alert to the emergence of new technologies and materials that could enrich our wood self-build system. Our aim is to explore innovative solutions that respond to changing market needs and offer significant advantages in terms of durability, performance and practicality for our customers.

Gablok firmly believes in the need to preserve our environment and reduce our ecological footprint. That's why we favor local sourcing and short supply chains, to limit transport-related carbon emissions and support local communities. What's more, we resolutely opt for natural and recyclable materials in our manufacturing processes. Our commitment to eco-responsibility guides every decision we make.

Optimizing structures

To guarantee the quality and performance of our products, we carry out in-depth in-house studies and tests to optimize every aspect of our structures. Our aim is to find the right balance between cost and performance. Using a scientific and methodical approach, we identify potential areas for improvement and develop solutions to enhance the robustness, durability and functionality of our Gablok product.

Easy on-site implementation

Simplicity and efficiency of assembly are essential for our self-build customers. That's why we work in close collaboration with our technical team, who help with site start-up. Taking into account feedback from our customers and the challenges encountered in the field, we continually evaluate our installation methods and identify ways to improve the user-friendliness of our products. This ensures a smooth and hassle-free installation experience. Our aim is to provide our customers with the tools and support they need to succeed in their self-build projects.

In short, our design office plays a central role in the success of your self-build project, providing you with comprehensive technical support. It also plays an important role in developing the Gablok concept and making it accessible worldwide.
